The Promise
A boutique that knows you by your second visit.
We don't carry everything — and that's the point. Every rack at Gotta Have It is edited by hand: the camel coat that flatters three different bodies, the silk blouse that travels, the leather handbag that earns its price. You walk in looking for one thing. You leave with the one thing you couldn't put down. That's the whole idea.

What you'll find inside
Four ways
to find your piece.
Whether you wander in on a Saturday or book the fitting room for an hour, the boutique bends toward the way you actually shop — not the way a department store assumes you do.
01 — New Arrivals
The Friday drop, in person.
New pieces arrive weekly, hung and steamed before the doors open. Limited quantities — when a rack sells through, it sells through. If something catches your eye on Instagram Friday morning, it may be gone by Saturday afternoon.

02 — Apparel & Accessories
Built to outlast the trend.
Silk blouses, tailored trousers, knitwear with weight to it, leather goods that age well. We carry the kind of clothing that hangs in your closet for a decade and still earns a Saturday-night outfit. Handbags, scarves, belts and jewelry finish the look.

03 — Personal Styling
An hour that saves a year of bad outfits.
Book the fitting room. Bring a problem — a wedding, a new job, a closet that needs editing — and leave with a working wardrobe. Honest opinions, real fitting, and a stylist who will tell you the second sweater isn't doing you any favors.

What to expect
Warm light, soft music, no pressure to buy.
The boutique is small on purpose. You'll be greeted by name after your second visit, offered a coffee or a sparkling water, and pointed toward whichever rack suits the errand you walked in with — even if the errand is "I have no errand, I just want to look around."
Fitting rooms are private, well-lit, and stocked with a few quiet pieces of advice: take your time, try the second size, and step out — the mirror against the wall is more honest than the one in the room.
Edited, not endless40-ish new pieces a week, every one approved on the floor.
Dubuque, not the internetYou'll never see the same camel coat in three other shops.
Honest opinionsIf the color isn't right, we'll say so before you buy it.
After the saleBring it back. We'll exchange, repair, or rehang it.
Behind the boutique
About
A closet that grew into a corner of Main Street.
Gotta Have It started the way the best boutiques do — a woman with a good eye, a rack in a spare room, and friends who kept asking to come over and try things on. Eventually the spare room wasn't big enough and the friends weren't a wide enough audience, so the racks moved to a storefront and the door opened. The point of the place hasn't changed: dress the people of Dubuque in pieces that make them feel like themselves, only more so.
We carry what we love and skip what we don't. We won't pretend a trend is a classic and we won't upsell you into something that isn't right. We'd rather you walk out empty-handed and come back next Friday.

Common questions
Things people
ask us, often.
If you've never been to a boutique like this before, here's what to expect — and what to skip worrying about.
Do I need an appointment, or can I just walk in?
Both work. Walk in any time we're open — the racks are out and the coffee is on. If you want the fitting room to yourself for an hour, book ahead so we can pull pieces before you arrive.
What if nothing fits when I get home?
Bring it back within 14 days, tags on, receipt in hand. Exchanges are easy. If something we sold you isn't earning its place in your closet, we'd rather know.
Do you do alterations on-site?
We partner with a tailor two doors down for hems and basic adjustments. Drop the piece with us and we'll coordinate the rest — usually back in your hands within a week.
How does personal styling actually work?
You tell us about the occasion or the gap in your closet, we pull 12–20 pieces ahead of time, and you try them on in the private fitting room over about an hour. Honest opinions included. Bring a photo of the event if you have one.
Can I buy a gift card without coming in?
Yes — request one through the form above and we'll mail a physical card or email a digital one, your call. Any amount, no expiration.
Where do you source the pieces?
A mix of independent labels and small-batch makers we've come to trust. We travel twice a year to look at the next season in person — when a fabric feels right, we order it. You'll never see the same camel coat in three other shops downtown.
